BUILDING OUR FAITH…STONE BY STONE, because when we remember what God has done, we live better!
Talking stones?! Anyone every heard of talking stones?
Remember the day that Jesus made His triumphal entry into Jerusalem and the crowds went wild? They were spreading their garments before Him and praising God for the miracles they had seen. They were so excited they couldn’t contain themselves as they shouted praises to the Lord.
The Pharisees who were present asked Jesus to rebuke them and He said, that even if they were to remain silent, the stones would cry out! For they stand as witnesses to God’s truth!
So what have the stones witnessed?
Stones have “watched” the rise and fall of civilizations. They have built ancient cities, walls and altars. For forty years they saw the provision of God for His people as they wandered in the wilderness. They witnessed the crossing of the Israelites on dry land before entering the land of promise, a giant who fell at the hand of a shepherd boy and his sling, and an old man being delivered from the mouth of lions. If stones could talk, they would have quite a story to tell!
That’s why I love looking at the stones of Scripture. They remind me of God’s power and His mighty deeds.
But what about today? Is God still in the business of intervening in human affairs?
David says, “I would have despaired had I not believed that I would see the goodness of God in the land of the living.” That means the God of yesterday is also the same God of today!
Is the budget tight? Are you wondering if God will provide? Do you have a barrier that seems impossible to cross? Are you facing a struggle or situation that seems so big, so impossible, that you feel hopeless and powerless?
After Daniel was cast into the lion’s den, a STONE was placed over the mouth of the den. The king sealed it with his own signet ring. In despair, the king went to his palace and spent the night fasting, and allowed no entertainment to be brought before him. He tossed and turned in his sleep.
At the break of day, he ran to the lion’s den and cried out, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God been able to deliver you from the lions?”
Then Daniel spoke to the king, “My God has delivered me and shut the mouths of the lions.”
God is still able to deliver today. Even if we choose to be silent, God has left a witness. Shhh…if you listen quietly enough, you may hear the stones cry out!
“I shall remember the deeds of the LORD; surely I will remember Thy wonders of old.” Psalm 77:11
